Giuliani and Nixon?

Michael Gerson has written a column describing the similarities between Giuliani and Nixon.

I agree with Gerson to a point. The analysis of Giuliani being a cultural warrior like Nixon is excellent. Nixon’s disdain for social degenerates and coupled with his social moderatism helped him win twice. If Giuliani continues his record of going after social degenerates, this will work well in the general because it will play well in areas like Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, California, etc… He might lose votes in the south for not being pro-life, but he will gain far more votes in the northeast for being their kind of culture warrior.

Rudy Giuliani has a good chance of winning in areas that have been losing Republican voters for years because he mixes elements that appeal to the middle and upper class in suburban and urban areas by being fiscally conservative, but a socially moderate culture warrior going after social degenerates.

The problem with Gerson’s analysis is how Giuliani might be a very practical politician, but he is definitely to the right of Nixon on fiscal issues. Based on his record in NYC, he might be the most free market candidate that has a serious shot in a long time.

Where have all the good girls gone?

4 June 2007 at 8:09 pm | In Cultural Decay, Relationships, Romance, Sexuality | Leave a Comment

CNN has a great article describing something I have seen for years, what they refer to as the porn effect. Essentially, the bar for beauty has been lowered to a blatant level of sexuality.

This reality hit me square in the face when I was dating a very pretty girl a few years ago. She is intelligent, classy, takes care of herself, dresses really well, etc… When we were dating, she could not believe I did not want her to constantly show off her cleavage by wearing really low cut tops. It was not because I was afraid she was flat-chested (she has a C cup), but she was degrading herself in my opinion by doing something simply to please me. She did not need to show off her cleavage for me to date her; I thought she was far more beautiful when she dressed in a more classy way (a skirt that did not come half way up her thighs and a nice blouse that did not show off half her chest and cleavage) and she showed that their was some substance in her mind.

She was showing her cleavage in an attempt to impress me in some kind of sexual way. This extended in me refusing to engage in sexual behavior with her even though she offered herself on a platter several times. Not because of any objection to sex outside of marriage or anything like that, I refused because such activities should be a mutual and be an expression of deep felt affection and intimacy. Dating someone for three months during my late teens is not a time for such things. Furthermore, she admitted later she really did not want have sex, but thought I would be pleased if provided herself as a vehicle for my pleasure.

The problem was that I did not want her for sex. There were plenty of girls who can off that for far less than I was committed to with her. I wanted her because I thought she was intelligent, an affectionate partner, and beautiful in the classy sense, not because she would give herself in sex if I wanted. In return, I expected her to admire those three things out of me. I wanted her to be my female peer, not my female sex object. I wanted her to be my equal, not subservient to me. I wanted to her to realize how much I admired her not for her sexual attributes, but her intelligence, classiness, and personality.  Of course she is beautiful in the physical sense (she is a local beauty queen type), but she could not understand being classy was far more attractive to me than showing how much skin she could show.

She could not comprehend this and it led to our relationship ending. After this experience, I refused to even consider dating because I felt no girl wanted a guy who wanted her to have class, intelligence, and a good personality.I have seen this phenomenon when I have been searching for female to date. I am a huge believer in equality and I expect a girl to adhere to a few things I expect out of myself: intelligence, good grooming, some sense of class, and respecting your partner in the relationship as your peer and equal.  I am not sure if any girl in the world actually wants a guy to like her for being intelligent, having a good personality, and beautiful in the classy “cute” sort of way.

Maybe I will die a rich old man without love, but I rather suffer that fate than having someone who thinks their duty is to please me sexually. Is it too much to ask for a girl who has class, intelligence, and a decent personality that wants to be loved for those characteristics and loved as a peer? Is it too much to ask for a girl who I can sincerely use as a model of what it represents to be a good girl to any daughters we might procreate if we marry?

I guess this is the dilemma of the nice guy who respects girls. Either settle and compromise your principles or risk loneliness.

Newt: Bush is worse than Carter

29 May 2007 at 10:02 pm | In Compassionate Conservatism, Cultural Decay, Philosophy, Politics, Rudy Giuliani, pro-choice republican | Leave a Comment

Newt Gingrich takes the Bush administration to school in an article in the New Yorker by comparing his incompetence to that of Jimmy Carter. Well I have to say the world is not as bad as it was under Carter, the incompetency of the Bush administration makes Carter’s look competent.

Carter and Bush both suffer from the same problem: They are both idealists blindly guided by their religious convictions. Carter believes everyone can live and peace and people are not evil. Bush believes its his crusade to set the world free and that it can be done. Both men are dangerously delusional.

Fundamentally, what the United States needs at the moment is someone who is competent and a realist. Not someone who governs with the love of the New Testament, but the realpolitik of Machiavelli and Hobbes. America’s problems cannot be solved by loving hugs and hoping people want to be free. We need someone who will show our enemies who is boss by restoring the fear of the Global Leviathan (the USA) and setting the American people free from the nanny state.

Newt also has a nice analysis of how Rove politics of religious warfare are bad for the Republican Party and America in general. Specifically he mentions an incident close to my heart – the Terri Schiavo saga. Remember in early 2005 I said this would be bad for the Republicans. Well Newt takes people to town for this one like I did over two years ago.

New syndrome: Middle class laziness…

29 May 2007 at 5:13 pm | In Cultural Decay, Philosophy | Leave a Comment

Some British researchers have begun to doubt the existence of dyslexia. Now I know a few people with the condition and I believe its very plausible they have the condition. They are bright people, but seem to have a problem reading sometimes. A few of them probably are milking their problem to cover up for other problems though, but I cannot really say for certain this is the case.

The bigger point I take from this article is the nature of modern middle class society. A halmark of the middle class in post-industrial societies is the self-esteem movement; what I refer to as the “feelings over reason movement.” Instead of telling it like it is, today we focus on making everyone feel good equally.

Sorry to say, self-esteem is an artificial construct. It is meant to prop up the weak at the expense of the strong. This has led to the creation of distinctions like overachievers and underachievers instead of having achievers and everyone else. Why should we say people who achieve great things are “overachievers” while those who cannot cut are “underachievers? Instead of setting the bar high, we set the bar at average level and hope everyone is average. This does not harm anyone’s feelings and teaches the achievers to slow down so they do not hurt the slackers feelings.

Furthermore, actions and results no longer matter. All we as a society care about is if someone felt good doing what they did. The best example of this has been the move to take competition out of youth sports. Instead of having winners and losers like the good old days, now we only have winners. No matter how good you are or now bad your opponent sucks, everyone wins and gets ice cream after the game! This bugged me when I played soccer because this soft culture was so common.

In effect, our society has become a bunch of mindless, reasonless, feelings worshipers who shun achievement and classify it as bad. Furthermore, this culture goes out of the way to restrain the successful to make the slackers feel better.

Do we really need a study to say this?

A study has been released discussing how binge drinking is tied to bad decision making.

Now tell me why someone needed to waste thousands of dollars to find this out?

People need to learn how to take care of themselves and accept some responsibility.

Best way to prevent the abuse of social programs…

24 May 2007 at 10:52 pm | In Cultural Decay, Politics | Leave a Comment

Eliminate as many as possible.

Illegal aliens will not be getting benefits if the programs are gone. I do not care if someone has been here 200 years or 200 hours, they should not be living off the state.

Irresponsible behavior should not be rewarded by the government enacting a safety net that covers all public stupidity.

Now I am not saying we should get rid of social security or medicare, but programs like medicaid and “free school lunches” should be curtailed if not eliminated.

Lock your daughters away from the lumber barons…

Of all the sick things I can read when I am eating my breakfast, this one probably takes the bowl of cereal:

Southwestern Pennsylvania’s 84 year old lumber baron marries a 22 year old who worked at his resort.

Beyond the fact they are separated by three generations,  this guy dumped his wife of 50 years for two different trophy wives in 10 years. Also, this girl already has a three year old son, which is separated by four generations from his step father!

Lesson of today is the following: Keep your daughters away from lumber barons in western Pennsylvania.

Words that should be included in this story: Sick, perverted, disturbing, gold-digger.

Wacko…

Wonder why people are turned off by the environmental movement?

Sheryl Crow thinks we all should only use one piece of toilet paper at a time.

Ms. Stinky can do what she wants, but when the nanny state says I can only use one piece, the government has become tyrantical and must be removed.

Is it really possible to be safe at all?

17 April 2007 at 10:29 pm | In Cultural Decay, Philosophy, Politics | Leave a Comment

Fox News is basically asking this question on their web-page.

From a general perspective, someone could say yes. Most American and for that matter Canadian campuses are safe. Of course there still is crime, but they are not like some parts of Detroit or Newark.

Fundamentally, the question should be whether is it really possible to be safe anywhere? With the exception of being behind the locked doors of your home, the answer is no. We live in a world that has always been filled with crazy individuals.

More importantly, we live in an open society where we are in essence an ever soft target. No matter if we ban guns, crazy individuals will find ways to harm society through other forms of violence. Weapons do not kill people, people kill people.

If people want to be truly safe, they better stay in their property with the doors locked and barbed wire fences for their existence. I doubt few people want to live like that. I honestly would not call that living at all.

The lesson from this terrible massacre is the following: Bad things happen in the world and there are few ways to stop crazy people in an open society.

Michigan: Land of morons!!!!!

6 April 2007 at 12:56 pm | In Cultural Decay, Detroit, Nanny State, Politics | Leave a Comment

It never ceases to amaze me how moronic the people of Michigan are on a daily basis. Now the Democrats in the State Legislature want to go on a spending spree when the state treasury is running in the red.

Their latest scheme is to buy every child an IPod. Now I have heard moronic government schemes before, but this one takes the cake.

First, why should the government buy anyone an IPod in the first place?

Second, why should the government even consider expanding spending when the state is going farther and farther in the whole every day?

Again, this is another reason I have no plan on attending law school in this union loving, American made automotive junk driving, socialism with values state. Next May, I will drive my American made, but foreign designed car out of this socialist state and head somewhere with fewer morons.
